Just been sanctioned in Rio a law which requires set ads containing foreign words to show off their translations into Portuguese, next door, the same size, under penalty of up to 5 thousand dollars in fines and, in case of recurrence until the suspension of license.
The title of this article, for example, if a commercial advertisement, could generate a loss of up to 40 thousand dollars to unsuspecting advertisers.
All in defense of Brazilian culture. The same that we be invaded more than 500 years by foreign settlers who never tire of contributing here.
Very good that our legislators have the same care and attention to issues that the preservation of good produce that culture. But it is, while advertising that I am, put some more wood on that fire, and asks for our most excellent legislators why such a direct focus on those that support our already depleted as the advertising market? On top of the escape of customers to Sao Paulo, have witnessed the sad porches of our homes, waiting, no return, legislative measures that would encourage an exodus contrary, we now impose rules that draw on the shoulders of propaganda responsibility for handing over a colony that actually began long before the advent of advertising itself in the annals of history.
But what about the pounds of songs in a foreign language that we hear repeatedly, day after day, on radio and TV? What about the music industry that today, before its total collapse, it turns out rivers of reissues of his dusty international catalog by following our throats, with virtually no interest in national launches, since the incentives of VAT does not subsidize the poor more breeders in ? And as for the industries of software and hardware that almost force us to understand English so that we can perform the desired plug and play, freeing us from drowning in that sink into the darkness of the plug and pray?
This all not to mention the transmission of international events that expose us 24 hours a day, the records, pole positions, safety cars, rock'n'roll, blues and other related sememes?
Anyway, I agree 100% with the need to build barriers to prevent the dilution of our culture. But I must also ask, as a good citizen and taxpayer, that our politicians are broader and deeper issues that put these reasons on the agenda.
After all, the influence of other languages, does not necessarily represent an undermining of our values born. But if indeed there is a consensus in this regard, it is time to look around, 360 degrees, so that we can write laws that leave no leaks so scandalous exploding before our eyes. Or we are very distant from a can, efficient and effective the end to this story. To be or not to be?
